Lenco Trim Tab Troubleshooting

The trim tabs are an essential component for determining how well your boat will perform and ride.

Power trim and tilt are included on many boats as standard features; however, they can be an upgrade on others.

The performance of your boat and its dryness, speed, and overall safety can all be improved with trim tabs from Lenco.

Compared to hydraulic trim tabs, the ball screw system from Lenco is more reliable and twice as robust.

Lenco Trim Tab Troubleshooting Guide

When employed with Lenco’s trim tab switches, they provide an instantaneous response, enhancing both precision and easy use.

This article will discuss all you need to know about Lenco trim tabs and troubleshooting.

Lenco Trim Tabs Troubleshooting

Unconnected Orange Cable

Checking the key switch is something you should do whenever there is a problem with an orange cable that is not attached.

You are responsible for making sure that the orange wire is connected to either a key switch or an on/off switch.

No Voltage

When using the Lenco trim tabs, you could run across situations where the battery has no voltage or is extremely low.

When the battery is not producing any voltage, check if the in-line fuse or breaker has tripped or been blown out. If that’s the case, you should charge the battery.

Before using the device, you should conduct a battery test and ensure that it is fully charged.

Issues With The Deutsch Power Pigtail Plug

Check the male and female Pigtail plugs when you are having trouble with the connection to the Deutsch power.

You should make sure that they are inserted in the correct positions.

In addition to this, check to see that the positive (red) and negative (black) wires are connected correctly.

No Retraction

Determine whether the battery has a low volt by testing it. Make sure to check the volt of the battery when it is operating.

If the volt is less than 15 volts, valves may not function.

Examine the quick-disconnect plug on the helm control to determine whether or not any of the connections have become corrupted or broken.

No Operation

Ensure that the helm control’s valve wire connectivity and the plug are not damaged. There are two sets of wires for each trim tab.

One set of wires is colored red, and the other set of wires is colored green.

It is essential to determine if the problem lies with the HPU or the hydraulic connections or actuators.

To do this, you need to turn the hydraulic lines around the front of the HPU.

If the issue is still present on another trim tab after reversing the lines, the HPU may be the source of the issue.

If the issue continues on the same side, the actuator or hydraulic connections may have become damaged.

Actuators Are Not Linked To Each Other

It is a problem that is related to the above point. If the Actuator Deutsch plugs are not fully inserted into their sockets, the actuators will not function correctly.

So, it would be best to make sure that your Actuators’ connectors are connected correctly.

Unconnected Black Molex Plug

If the black Molex on your Lenco trim tabs is not connected correctly, you may have trouble using it.

If this happens, you need to check the Molex plug on the back of the keypad to ensure the connection is working.

By taking the keypad off the upper station, you can tell if the extension cable causes the problem or not.

After that, you need to connect directly to the Molex cable that comes out of the controller.

Keypad Buttons Failure

If any of your keypad’s buttons aren’t working right, you should look at the actuator.

Before you can test the actuator, you need to take apart the Deutsch plug on the back of the controller. Also, test each actuator by getting electricity to the right place.

No Movement

If the trim tabs on your plane don’t move at all, check the panel of the fuse box to see if a fuse has blown.

For you to do this, 20 amps are the amount that is recommended. Checking to see if the control assembly can stand on its own is of the utmost importance.

If the lights on the helm keypad aren’t working, check the wires and connectors to see if any connections are broken or corrupted.

After trying the above solutions and still having problems, STOP what you are doing and call Lenco for more help.

Lenco trim tabs will give you all the further information you need to know.

Here Are A Few Things To Keep In Mind:

  • Make sure that all of the connections and wiring have been checked for corrosion, as this can cause problems that weren’t expected.
  • The battery needs to be fully charged, and any corrosion on the connectors needs to be cleaned off.
  • Lenco is run by two simple motors that turn in opposite directions. It is possible to connect the white and black wires of the actuator directly to a power source. Connect the white wire to the positive post on the battery to find out how far an actuator can move. Then, attach the black wire to the negative post at the battery. If you switch the places where the two wires connect, it will go back into its case. The actuator needs to be replaced if it doesn’t move.

Operation

The Lenco trim tabs are easy to use because of how they are made. Actuators on the boat’s transom control the two steel panels.

When the tabs are lowered, the water flow around the boat changes. It makes the stern rise.

The front will go down as the ship moves forward, and the back will go up. Lenco trim is electromechanical, so it can act right away when a switch is pressed.

For the Lenco switch to work right, the bow must be in the right place. The left side of the switch controls the tab on the board side of the boat.

It is how the system was made so that there is less room for interpretation when you are driving.

To lower the starboard bow, you’ll need to press the switch on the right side of the boat. Press the Down switch on the left (port) switch panel to lower the port bow.
